Electric vehicles are gaining more importance in the automotive sector; and not just with regards to their usefulness. Even at a professional level they are becoming more important resources. Also in the case of heavy vehicles, such as Transport Trucks, Dump Trucks and vehicles for public works and mining, the trend is also growning.
It is the case of:
KOMATSU HD605-7EO DUMP TRUCK
The KOMATSU HD605-7EO dump truck is a version of the HD605 model of the Japanese brand KOMATSU, which has been modified by the Swiss companies Kunh Schweiz and Lithium Storage in order to convert it into an electric vehicle.
The largest Elcectric vehicle in the world
Kuhn Schweiz and Lithium Storage were able to create, starting from a KOMATSU dump truck, a huge electric vehicle of 45 tons, for public works and mining industry. These two Swiss companies hav created the “E-Dumper”, the electric version of a Dump Truck which transports large quantities of goods over short distances.
In this way a truck of high tons like the KOMATSU HD605, which has a consumption between 50.000 and 100.000 liters of diesel per year, become a 100% electric with 800 horsepower of the engine. To achieve this result, Lithium Storage and Kuhn Schweiz have replaced all KOMATSU components and parts including the diesel engine, with an electric motor powered by a 700 kWh battery (battery equivalent to the energy supplied by seven Tesla Vehicles).
E-Dumper generates about 40kWh of electricity for each trip “on the way”; instead, during the “return” journey, only 30 kWh is used. This translates into a positive energy balance that allows electricity to be supplied to the grid. One million euros is the cost of this conversion from HD605-7 to HD605-7EO and at the moment the result is a prototype that will be put to the test phase in Switzerland in order to analyze the feasibility and profitability of this type of conversions in other models of machinery for the mining and construction industry of KOMATSU. With 45 tons of weight, 800 horses and a 700 kWh battery, the KOMATSU HD605-7EO e-Dumper is THE WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC VEHICLE.
